The Solace of Orpheus
Director: Niall Donegan & Elliot Vick
Country: UK
Running Time: 93′
London Premiere
Year: 2018
John and Daria, a young couple from London, travel to rural Northern Ireland hoping to salvage their failing relationship. John still struggles with his father’s death, while Daria finds it increasingly difficult to cope with his dissociation. The arresting nature of the Mourne mountains provides the perfect set for this intimate portrait on a suffering relationship, which sees the couple further grow apart, perhaps beyond repair. An eloquently written and exceptionally made low-budget debut that perfectly exemplifies how a clear vision, lots of determination and a camera is all that’s required to make a great film.
