OPENING NIGHT GALA – Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat

Director: Sara Driver

Country: USA

Running Time: 78′

UK Premiere

Year: 2017

The multi-talented Sara Driver was at the centre of “No Wave”, the vibrant avant-garde New York City arts and music scene of the late 70s. The female lynchpin of the 80s American indie film scene, Driver makes a welcome return to directing. Turning her gaze towards her enigmatic contemporary Basquiat, Driver mixes archive footage and music with the memories of friends including Jim Jarmusch, Fab Five Freddy and Patricia Field to deliver a staggering portrait of an artist before commodification.
~Kaleem Aftab

Filmmaker Sara Driver is expected to attend and participate in a post-screening Q&A.

Ticket price includes free entry to the Downtown NY afterparty at The Total Refreshment Centre, with drinks courtesy of Renegade London Wine and The Five Points Brewing Company.

There will be a repeat screening of Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat on the 15th April at The Castle Cinema at 15:00, more info here
