EEFF 2011 opened with its highest-profile opening gala ever, attracting over a dozen paparazzi photographers, several TV crews, and print and radio journalists, resulting in coverage across all media including BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, The Daily Mirror’s “3am”, Daily Star’s “Playlist”, and a huge feature in NME. Elsewhere, the festival gleaned lots of national and international press, including the last ever interview given by filmmaker Ken Russell in The Guardian, and a cover story interview in TNT with Carl Barat of The Libertines. There was further print coverage in national newspapers The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Guardian Guide, The Times, Time Out, Metro, and Evening Standard; magazines including Marie Claire, Mojo and Huck; and local press including East London Advertiser, East End Life, Hackney Gazette, Newham Recorder, The Wharf and The Docklands. EEFF also featured in broadcast and online media, with interviews on Channel 5 TV’s The Right Stuff and radio shows on various BBC networks.
