Oscar Nomination for EEFF film

How To Suvive A Plague, one of the highlights of the 2012 East End Film Festival, has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2013 Academy Awards. Chronicling the emergence of the ACT UP and TAG coalitions and their struggle to turn AIDS from ‘a death sentence into a manageable condition’ in the early 1980s, award winning journalist David France’s debut is not just a moving chronicle of a significant period of activism, but a tale of people taking on the system, and winning. A brilliant and important film, the East End Film Festival was privileged to give the film its first screening in London in July, presented as part of the EEFF’s shared Sheffield Doc/Fest selection and with director David France in attendance. We will be keeping our fingers crossed that the film deservedly takes home the Academy Award on 24th February.
